Dallas Cowboys’ Jason Hatcher has Right Approach to Peyton Manning
The Dallas Cowboys face a huge challenge on Sunday afternoon trying to slow down Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos offense. The numbers for Manning are gaudy; he’s thrown for 1,470 yards, 16 touchdowns and zero interceptions in leading the Broncos to the NFL’s best offense.
While Manning is a force to be reckoned with, Cowboys defensive lineman Jason Hatcher doesn’t seem to care about his accomplishments this year. Here’s some of what Hatcher had to say about facing Manning, via Jon Machota of the dallasnews.com.
“Don’t think for one minute we’re scared,” Cowboys defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said. “We ain’t scared of nobody. I don’t really care who it is. They’re going to make plays. Any team can make plays against you.”
I love the way Hatcher is refusing to give in like most people are by saying the Cowboys have no chance to win the game this weekend. It should be a rallying cry for the Cowboys and I expect the team feels the same way. Hatcher wasn’t done however, and continued with the right approach to the game.
“He can be beat,” Hatcher said. “But at the same time, you have to respect a guy like that. He’s probably one of the best. When he leaves this game, he’ll be the greatest who ever did it, so of course you respect him. You see what he does week in and week out. We have our work cut out for us. We’re excited about the challenge. I know I am. I enjoy playing against a guy like that.”
Hatcher has become one of the Cowboys biggest leaders this season, both on the field and in the locker room, and he’s got the perfect mindset for this game. The Cowboys shouldn’t be scared of Manning but embrace the opportunity to prove how good they can be. The only way Dallas can beat the Broncos is to believe they can and play without fear. If the Cowboys play as a scared, passive football team then they have no chance.
There’s no question the Cowboys face a big challenge on Sunday but Hatcher has the right attitude heading into one of the biggest games on the schedule after last week’s performance. Let’s hope the rest of the Dallas Cowboys have the same approach.
